Food for displace persons burns in boat flame

By Manas James

A commercial boat loaded with relief food has caught fire at a harbor in Jonglei State Capital Bor, the secretary general of the Boats’ Union confirmed.

The incident occurred at 5 pm on Wednesday.

Secretary of boats’ union, Abraham Thongbor, said the vessel was in transit to the northern part of Jonglei when it caught fire.

“The boat was loaded with sorghum in a place called Total. It then came to Bor waiting for other boats before it could proceed to the northern part of Jonglei State to deliver food meant for the displaced communities there,” he said.

“However while at a docking site, it caught fire while some crew members were cooking.”

The official said all the two crew members escaped unhurt but that the boat capsized with the loaded food items.
