Honestly, understanding the roles of various institutions, limits of operations in relation to others are paramount, healthy practices, to avoid misrepresentation and misunderstanding.

Taking the military manning traffic in Juba city, as a case study; yes, their presence along the road at any time of the day is very important for our security, more so during moments of feasts like Eid and at night.

However, for these officers to engage in asking motorists for logbooks and driving documents might be misconstrued as an overstepping, if not overlapping the duties of the traffic police force. Whereas identifying a motorist with a logbook helps to establish true ownership and weeding out criminals.

Also considering some jobs require specialized training for effective execution, observing boundaries of roles and responsibilities comes handy to help human resources stay productive and happy.

Continued visibility of the comrades in combat, who are primarily responsible for preventing attacks from any sources has always been key in the city, to avert possible security threats but calls for role boundary.

On a positive note, overlapping traffic police roles has not been existing and not a common practice among many; it could well be an isolated case, if done to extra limits, raising concerns among motorists.

However, citizens also need to know that the police and military, at some levels, play similar or the same roles when it comes to security matters.

In respect to our gallant comrades and to create a healthy relationship between combatants and the civil population, the powers that be, should ensure setting boundaries for operations of the various sectors of the armed forces.

Combatants of a nation are therefore to protect civilians while the civil population lives to cherish their sons and daughters in arms; in a homely relationship, not a hostile one.

The Police force is responsible for maintaining order and peace by managing crime, apprehending criminals and protecting the innocent and personal property.

However, police officers may take up different duties and responsibilities depending on their level of experience and rank, all police officers help write reports, keep records and maintain civil order.

They also handle other law-related duties such as guarding traffic, criminal investigation, emergency response, threat prevention, reporting and documentation, and court cases.
