Road accident kills two in Lakes state

By Yang Ater Yang.

Police in Lakes State have reported death of two people as a result of a tragic road accident in Awerial County.

Maj. Elijah Mabor Makuac, the police spokesperson in Lakes State said it occurred between Door and Butagok payams of Awerial County, Lakes State, on Wednesday.

He said the incident unfolded when a motorcycle rider collided with a pickup vehicle.

The incident left two people dead, including the motorcycle rider, who died on the spot, while another woman later succumbed to a wound she sustained after being rushed to the hospital.

A police spokesperson said, according to information they gathered, the boda boda rider was transporting two women on the motorbike when they collided with the car.

“Another vehicle was also traveling, but unfortunately, there was very heavy dust, so motorists were not able to recognize other vehicles in front of them. Consequently, he collided, and the boda-boda rider and one woman later died,” narrated Mabor.

It is not clear, however, whether the land cruiser pickup vehicle involved in the crash belongs to the government or a business car.

Police also noted that the driver fled the scene of the incident, but he later reported himself to the police yesterday morning, and he’s being remanded for investigation.

The police spokesperson then advised road users, especially motorists, to drive cautiously given the nature of the dusty road that is still under construction, saying it’s dangerous.

“Everybody must drive with carefulness, and this is what I would like to advise everybody using the road,” Maj. Mabor said.
