An attack by armed bandits in Duk County in Jonglei State left four people dead and four children abducted, authorities said.
The incident occurred on Tuesday.
Peter Latjor Chuol, the county commissioner, told No. 1 Citizen Daily Newspaper that the incident occurred when a group of eight civilians were waylaid at the outskirts of Poktap town.
“Those killed include an elderly man, two women, and a young girl, while four children who were in their company were abducted,” he said.
The local official said the group was heading to Twic East County when they were attacked.
“These people were attacked on a road between Poktap in Ageer Payam and Wernyol. We condemned this attack because such attacks are happening while we are for peace with our neighbours,” he said.
Armed attacks are common in parts of Jonglei State.
