SPLM receives new cadres

By Hou Akot Hou

Dozens of supporters of the Sudan People’s Liberation Movement in Opposition (SPLM-IO) in Aweil North County, Northern Bahr El Ghazal State, have switched allegiance to the SPLM.

In a statement posted on the official Facebook page of the Northern Bahr El Ghazal state, the defectors allegedly cited a lack of a proper vision, mission, and thematic programs in the SPLM-IO party.

Tito Wol, who heads the group, addressed a gathering in a ceremony held in Majak-baai of Aweil North County, which was attended by the state deputy chairperson of SPLM, Mr. William Anyuon Kuol, who also doubles as information minister in Northern Bahr El Ghazal State.

Also in attendance were members of the SPLM in the state, including the commissioner of Aweil North County, Mr. Kiir Chan Wol.

Mr. Tito pronounced that they would work hard to ensure that they partake in reforming the party, including having proper norms in place to prevent members from quitting the mother party.

He alleged that some people within the SPLM-IO don’t give them factual information on how to progress, and that discourages them.

For his part, the deputy chairperson of the state’s SPLM party, Mr. William Anyuon Kuol, who was accompanied by his SPLM members to receive the group, welcomed the defectors and urged them to be good supporters of the SPLM party.

He said the party, SPLM, will do what it takes to deliver the services despite the challenges that the country is facing.

However, the SPLM-IO party is yet to comment on the reports of the latest defection of its supporters to ruling SPLM.
