How Saul became Paul

Are you Saul wanting to replace the first letter of your name with the letter P to become Paul? Do you have challenges in making it so? But before that, have you really changed from a life-terminating person to a life-loving one?

In case you are Saul who does not know why and how Saul was converted and renamed Paul, here we go! Saul was a son of Kish. He was tall and handsome, of course, more handsome than any of the people of Israel. He hated the word of God and so, he ventured into murdering the Saints of Jerusalem.

As loving as God, He could not kill Saul for revenge but chose to convert him through responsibility. Saul was sent to Damascus by a Chief Priest, but on his way, the Lord appeared and spoke to him, asking a question which took Saul’s sight; Saul, Saul, why do you persecute me? Rise and enter the city and from there, you be told what to do, God commanded Saul.

When Saul rose, he could not see, he had his sight taken by God. Saul could not see and eat for three good days. God then sent Ananias to talk to Saul and open his eyes to regain sight and be filled with the Holy Spirit. Imagine a corrupt individual helping a murderer! Was this not Ananias who sold a piece of land and kept part of the money for himself which later caused his death? Anyway, God had wanted to teach them a lesson.

When Ananias talked to Saul about his being sent by God to him, something like scales fell down Saul’s eyes and he immediately regained his sight. He was then baptized and renamed Paul. Paul dedicated his dear life to serving God to such an extent he cursed Ananias and his wife Sapphira to death when they sold a piece of land and kept part of the money for themselves.

To date, Paul is a great man in the Bible. How can you replace S of your Saul with P to become Paul? If you have been a Saul of your time, it is not too late for you to change. The blood in your hands can’t annoy God so much that He may reject you. What may annoy God so much is when you want to remain a killer for the rest of your life. Mind you, even if you avoid murder, practices such as bribery, unfairness, hypocrisy, corruption, dictatorship etc. can sum up to a murder.

Becoming Paul is simple! Be humble like a child. Do good to people. Do not let your left hand know what your right hand is doing and the reverse is true. If indeed killing is the source of your survival, then did you one time meet and share a table with a murderer who had abandoned killing?

Are you not aware that a murderer who had refrained from killing becomes God’s chosen instrument to carry His name? But murder is not a guarantee to secure for you a ticket to God’s heart, you can still be a God’s chosen instrument even if you have never killed.   Looking at this in the context of South Sudan, you would find that murder is almost getting its way to curriculum vitae and termination of another person’s life is a sin rather than an achievement.

So many South Sudanese are Sauls in one way or another, and that, it is not too late for them to replace letter S to become Pauls.   It is only when you become Paul that you secure a self-contained room in heaven. Remember Saul was not just changed by God like that, but he was changed when he was changing himself.

This is the origin of ‘God helps those who help themselves’. Washing away blood in your hands removes the first letter of your name and replaces it with the letter P, and your new name becomes Paul. Thereafter, the Kingdom of God welcomes you. It is not too late for you to change to become a good person.
