Farmer, 51-year-old shot Dead in Torit

Unknown assailant shot dead, a 51-year-old farmer on Saturday morning while traveling to cultivate at Odikolong area, an outskirts of Eastern Equatoria State capital, Torit Town.

The deceased has been identified as Angelo Ohosa.

A police officer and a relative to the deceased, Obulo Karanja, confirmed the incident to No. 1 Citizen Daily Newspaper.

According to Karanja, the assailant escaped after committing the crime, adding that the incident caught people by surprise.

“The killer escaped immediately to the bush in Odikolong; we cannot run after him since he is armed with an AK-47 gun,” he continued. “We are toothless; maybe the government has to follow him. This killer is known by the residents, and we are hopeful he will be arrested.”.

Meanwhile, Ambrose Oyet Albino, Chairman of the Lopit community, condemned the killing.

“We condemn this barbaric act… the perpetrators must be brought to justice,” he demanded.

Mr. Oyet added that the motive for the killing is unknown and has caused panic among residents.

However, Torit municipal council police are investigating the incident and calling for calm among the town residents.

The police also urged residents to report any sightings of the suspect in town.

This is the fourth murder of its kind within the municipal council, involving unknown armed men targeting innocent people striving to make ends meet within the bush of the town.
