Man, 48, ends life in Magwi

By Ijoo Bosco

Licari Boma community in Obbo Payam, Magwi County, is grieving the loss of a 48-year-old man who tragically died by ingesting Di-Macron, a toxic chemical used for pest control.

The unfortunate incident occurred on Tuesday and was confirmed by local police crime investigator 1st Lt. Atanga David Ogeno.

In an exclusive interview with No. 1 Citizen Daily Newspaper, Lt. Ogeno reported that the man was rushed to Obbo Primary Health Care Center for urgent medical attention after consuming the chemical. Unfortunately, he succumbed to the effects of the poison.

Lt. Ogeno highlighted that the rising incidents of suicide in the community stem from various factors, including the misuse of drugs sold by clinics and agricultural suppliers, which often violate safety guidelines.

He pointed out that issues such as alcoholism and family disputes are significant contributors to these tragedies.

“The community needs to understand that there are better ways to resolve conflicts than resorting to suicide,” he advised.

He also urged community members to approach their problems with patience and resilience, rather than viewing difficult circumstances as insurmountable.

Lt. Ogeno cautioned drug sellers to refrain from providing toxic substances like De-Macron to the general public.

He called on agricultural experts to handle such chemicals, rather than allowing unrestricted access to ordinary citizens.

In a similar incident earlier this month, a woman in Owiny Ki Bul ended her life using the same chemical following a family dispute.

Lt. Ogeno encouraged individuals to share their struggles with family, friends, or neighbors as a means to prevent further tragedies and foster a supportive community atmosphere.
