Residents and police officers in Jonglei State, in a heartfelt farewell ceremony, honoured Maj. Gen. Elia Costa Faustino, who has been relocated following a three-year tenure as police commissioner.

Lauded for his exceptional leadership, Gen. Costa’s tenure was marked by a significant reduction in insecurity and a strengthened sense of unity within the police force.

Simon Hoth Dual, Jonglei State Minister for Local Government and Law Enforcement, praised Gen. Costa for his unwavering professionalism and integrity.

“Maj. Gen. Elia Costa is a professional man who knows how to do his job. Since he came to Jonglei State three years ago as the police commissioner,” Hoth said.

“He has cooperated with the people of Jonglei State, and whenever there are any orders from the government to be executed, he takes them with seriousness,” he added.

Minister Hoth said Gen. Costa’s leadership has been instrumental in Jonglei state’s progress, exemplifying the true spirit of service and dedication.

Addressing the gathering, Gen. Costa expressed deep gratitude for the warm reception and support he received from the people of Jonglei.

Originally from Western Equatoria, Costa described Jonglei as his “second motherland” and emphasized the significance of the farewell as a symbol of national unity.

“From the reception I got since day one I came here and the cooperation from you, the people of Jonglei, I am very happy. It was my first time to come to Bor, and you welcomed me as someone whom you knew before. I never expected such a level of cooperation and kindness.” Gen. Costa said.

As Gen. Elia Costa transitions to his new role as police commissioner in Lakes state, he is succeeded by Maj. Gen. John Baak.
