As reliance on Water Tankers in Juba city has proved ineffective, the government must fix a long-term solution to deter economic cannibalism.

For more than two weeks now, Juba City Council (JCC) has attempted to prevail over exorbitant water prices by defiant private suppliers. Since then, the water Tankers have gone into hiding in order to strengthen their bargain power to insist lowering prices as per the directive of the city council.

Now operating in clandestine manner, some Water Tank operators supply individuals at their own prices while rest of the population is left in disarray.

To ensure consistent safe and clean water in all towns in the country, the government must establish piped supply to household level and permanently cut off Tankers.

Its illogical that a city at the shore of the great River Nile suffers water crises and residents hardly access this abundant hydro-recourse.

Despite struggles to fix other obstacles in development of the country, as water is life, the government should give priority because of its pressing nature.
