Nation Talks

Water remains in the black market and is sold to those with direct contact, meaning, only to those who can afford to pay what the water tankers are asking while the poor are subjected to suffering.

This is only happening in South Sudan since it’s claimed to be an open economy country. And the weak government system that is undermined by foreigners, which is not happening in any other country in the world (“that a foreigner disrespects laws of another country).

It’s almost a week since the City Council Mayor came out to adjust the price of water suppliers in the city where the areas around pounds should be at SSP 2,500 far areas at SSP 3,500 but since then nothing has changed, simply because all the commodities are still at the higher price and since this water tanks are driven by foreigners has made life very difficult, and citizens have no voice on them because they got full support from the government and some of the water tankers belong to the individual who has a position in the government currently, up to now water tankers are on strike and now move around 3:00 AM with the same chargers including few South Sudanese have adopted that culture and have no mercy.

The decision taken by the Moya is satisfactory to the residents since it is our water but what spoils it is the implementation of law and order, because without implementation it becomes a waste.  water suppliers have their meetings to defy any order since they feel protected any resident that compline is not entitled to water this is how the country is suffering at the hands of political parties. There are areas now in Juba without water since they are trying to follow the orders given by the Mayor and the directive given by the governor of Central Equatoria state saying any water suppliers refusing the order are subjected to withdrawal of license which is not working.

In this situation, the government seems to have forgotten its people is no longer hear the poor citizens cry about this hardship simply because they are not facing any difficulties but focusing on how to control their wealth. The water tankers have taken the law into their own hands since. In some areas, the JICA project has reached some houses with full connection to water taps but wondering why it does not function JICA/ government needs to put a clear explanation on that! Otherwise are total promotions of the water tankers.

The role of the government is to inject money to connect water into every household to end all the trauma of water in Juba city not just eating cash for no good reason in the names of poor Citizens. With all the resources in South Sudan, the way forward is for government water tankers painted in the army uniform should start supplying water to the residential areas at a lower price and for all the foreign tankers to go on suspension until they agree on deported back to their respective countries. Because the time will come when poor Citizens will say enough is enough for this suffering.

I appeal to the government to speed up connections of clean drinking water taps to households or deport foreigners who undermine laws passed by the authority and withdraw licenses from big-headed otherwise there is a need for change, one of the city council members trying to solve the issues of water through foreign ambassador. As a citizen of this country up to today, I did not find the reasons why a leader begging in his own country, does it mean the country is sold to foreigners or what exactly now everyone can just break the law?

God protect South Sudan

Be right there!
