This is a tough time for the citizens who need peace, as the election has been extended for an additional two years. Citizens should be protected from all kinds of atrocities.
The constant fear of being targeted and killed is not a good reality. Those in the military who target and kill civilians need to be held accountable. There is no justification for their actions. Who are you fighting in this country? Is it the government or the civilians? Does killing civilians solve your issues?
Armed men stormed Leikor Trading Centre in Kajo-keji County Central Equatoria state last week Friday evening and the killing of four civilians and looting of properties on spots is a violation of human rights, it is going beyond human understanding in this country.
There were these incidences that happened in Wonduruba and another followed in Tonj- North of Warrap State.
In the recent incident that happened in Wonduruba Payam, Central Equatoria State, 10 youths were killed in cold blood on the 9th/10/2024, according to the local authorities. This gruesome incident also claimed 9 innocent lives in Kulipapa, Ganji Payam. It indicates that armed individuals kidnapped the youth at midnight from their homes and were heinously murdered.
The attacks in Wonduruba and Ganji Payam occurred after the governor of the Central Equatoria state left the area in Logoko Boma on the outskirts of Wonduruba town.
Once again, bloodshed continued, with 20 people killed and 38 injured, and many lost their properties in Tonj North of Warrap State. It raises the question of whether there is a real government or just a trying government.
The situation is distressing, and it doesn’t end there. The national government and the state government seem to be ruling people the way they want, without caring about the consequences.
South Sudanese need peace, not more conflict. The 21 years of war have been enough. There is no need for more war; instead, peace needs to be implemented in the country. Killing civilians does not make sense at all. If you feel defeated, it’s important to seek the right path and put the gun down, joining civilian life instead of raising your gun against civilians.
I strongly condemn these attacks on civilians, and the government should protect the lives of the people from being shot and looted all the time.
God protect South Sudan.
Be right There!
