Magwi County Local Government Revenue Authority has announced plans to increase the number of auction days within the county as part of efforts to enhance service delivery.
Speaking to this outlet on Wednesday, Lokang Peter, head of the Magwi County Revenue Authority, stated that the initiative aims to establish additional auction locations to improve accessibility for the community.
He stated that the revenue office has received numerous requests for the establishment of auction points in various areas.
On October 13, 2021, letters detailing the auction schedule were sent to several locations, including Lobone, Pajok, Palwar, Obbo, and Iwire, as well as Owiny Payam.
In response to community demand, the revenue office has decided to include additional auction points: Pogee on the 4th, Ayii Kit on the 26th, Agoro Payam on the 28th, and Omeo Payam on the 29th of every month.
According to Lokang, auction points will be allocated based on proximity to the local population to ensure better service delivery. He noted that the 30th and 1st of each month will remain unscheduled for auctions.
Meanwhile, Magwi Payam Executive Officer Mr. Otto Benson highlighted the connection between service delivery and income-generating activities, which are vital for government revenue.
He added that an auction venue has been agreed upon in Paluonganyi, but discussions are ongoing regarding its precise location.
Both speakers encouraged local business communities to engage with the planned auctions to prevent dominance by foreign traders from Uganda.
