Budi County probes woman’s death at school compound

Authorities in Budi County, Eastern Equatoria state, are investigating the death of an elderly woman, suspected to have been hanged by unknown assailants and subsequently abandoned at Chukudum Primary School.

The body was discovered on Thursday morning.

Lokiru Rafael, the Homiri Payam administrator in Budi County, reported that the woman’s body was found around 6 a.m. near the primary school grounds.

“Yes, it’s true that this morning we were informed about a body found near Chukudum Primary School. When we sent the police, they confirmed that the woman had indeed passed away. However, we are still trying to investigate the exact cause of her death,” he said.

The woman’s son has had ongoing issues for the last two years and has been in Palabek, Uganda.

Lokiru said they are trying to determine whether the perpetrators of this crime may be connected to him.

“So far, we do not know, as she was just found lying there, and many assume that those involved might be people related to her son’s situation. There are still ongoing investigations. Yesterday, she was with some people closely, and they were still sitting together late in the evening. This discovery has come as a shock to her neighbors,” said Lokiru.

The area administrator condemned the act and called for an end to such practices in the area.

“As a government official, I consider this a very serious issue that we must all condemn. This behavior is unacceptable. Mistakes can happen, and if anyone commits a crime, there are proper procedures to follow, which is why we have the police and organized forces to handle these matters. Those engaging in these actions are truly in the wrong, as it creates a state of anarchy,” added Lokiru.
