By Peter Kuol Kuch

Jonglei State Ministry of Health launched a cholera vaccination campaign this week across all nine counties, following an outbreak that began in November 2024.

The first case was recorded in Piji County and quickly spread to neighboring areas, including Panjak and Twic East.

The campaign began in Bor County, the state capital, and will extend to other parts of Jonglei State.

Lual Monyluak Dau, the Minister of Health in Jonglei State, said ‘’this is a great milestone, as we join our effort in the fight against cholera, today we are launching the cholera vaccination campaign in our state. This is to bring a new life to our people.”

The Ministry of Health has secured 440,000 doses of the cholera vaccine, donated by the World Health Organization (WHO) through the South Sudan Ministry of Health. The campaign is scheduled to last seven days.
Minister Dau urged the public to get vaccinated and stressed the importance of continued adherence to cholera prevention measures.

‘’All of us should wash our hands, and on top, we should keep our environment clean, we must drink clean water, we must treat the water with chlorine tablets,” Dau added.

The cholera outbreak has severely impacted several counties, including Pigi, Pangak, and Twic East.
Since November, over 2,800 cases have been registered, with 80 deaths, according to the Ministry of Health.
