Aweil East Commissioner surveys border security, economic impact

By Hou Akot Hou

On Wednesday, the commissioner of Aweil East County, Northern Bahr El Ghazal State, visited areas along the border with South Kordofan.

His visit aimed to better understand the local economic and security situation, as well as to explore the relationship between the Rezeigat and the local communities in the border areas.

Diing Aher Ngong, the county commissioner, was accompanied by county officials, including the peace coordinator, Luka Luach.

They visited Madupbo and Agok in Warguet Payam, which is situated close to both South Kordofan and Darfur.

Aher addressed the residents who welcomed him with high hopes for news and updates.
He acknowledged the challenges faced by local people.

Deng Akok, a member of the local government, reported that the commissioner held briefings with local chiefs, affirming their commitment to supporting the community.

“The commissioner has provided updates to residents in areas such as Madupbo and Agok, which are part of Warguet Payam in Aweil East County,” said Akok.

He added that the Rezeigat living in Warguet have been encouraged to live peacefully alongside the local population to help rebuild their lives.

The commissioner also urged both the Rezeigat and local residents to harmonize their social issues and resolve conflicts peacefully, emphasizing that the agreements made between the Rezeigat and Misseriya should not be overlooked and are important to uphold.

It remains to be seen how the commissioner’s assurances will impact the local residents living in these border areas, as they often feel neglected.

Many residents complain that government officials do not prioritize addressing pressing issues such as famine and the lack of essential services, including good roads and schools.
