Nation Talks

South Sudan should focus on agricultural production to avoid feeding on toxic food imported from outside the country.

Last year several tracks were impounded at Nimule Border enroute South Sudan with toxic Maize flour which would have put the lives of citizens at higher risk. Diseases such as cancer and others are possible consequences of such contaminated products.

South Sudan is prone to food risks as fighting severer hunger is beyond her control. Yet consuming toxic products puts citizens at the verge of toxic poisoning.

Toxicity adverse properties on producers by poisons, these hostile effects can range from slight symptoms like headaches or nausea to severe symptoms like coma convulsions. Deadly toxicants are habitually found in the food, air water people drink, this harmful exposure is linked to innumerable forms of cancer, Multiplicative, abnormalities including lung disease diabetes and learning disabilities which is dangerous to peoples healthy

South Sudan consumes very dangerous (not only the Maize flour) that the National Bureau of Standards rescued but a lot of food materials exported to the country.  Examples are cooking oil, fruits picked before its ready, and gets ready in the market.

This is a big problem to South Sudanese national and is also happening because the country did not focus on agriculture, it only aimed on oil money and that’s why the country is suffering from the weight of hunger and cannot fight it.

The delayed implementation of peace in the country has a great impact on hunger since other areas are still threatened by insecurity. Areas that could have been used for agriculture, are not easy to access either, citizens are very scared of agriculture since people’s minds are not stable.

Leaders see war as their benefit and that’s why the agricultural sector is poorly in the country. This attracts questions such as “for how long will the country continue to feed on expert food?” or” when will there be stable security in some of the areas where agriculture would be practised?”

Honestly, South Sudan has land that is not been used for over 20 years, that may produce enough food for the country but only people need security to have access to it and good roads for the products to reach the markets.

While the Jonglei governor deploys security forces in the villages to Safeguard farming, it remains in question such as for how long will the forces provide security? Is it until the harvest time or what actually?

I would ask the government to stabilize security across the country for agriculture to take place safely and to avoid risking the lives of the citizens, feeding on rotten food.

It’s the role of government to ensure the wellbeing of the citizens.

The Ministry of Agriculture should work hard in fighting hunger in the country by encouraging farmers. This docket is also responsible to safeguard the health of our nation’s agricultural materials and the environment against plant and animal pests.

The minister of Agriculture, further plays a great role in the growth of the country’s economy.

God Protect South Sudan.

Be witness!
