Gender desk department of police in Yei River County, Central Equatoria state, has recorded at least eight cases of rape within the month of May, alone.
Francis Mokobe Robert, the gender desk officer said most of the cases recorded were of teenagers.
He said all the eight perpetrators were arrested, but three have been bailed while the remaining five are still in police custody, awaiting trial.
Police attributed the increase of rape ceases to lack of parental control on their children.
Mokobe said most parents have left their children to loiter at night without guidance.
“The case increased currently because children move twenty-four hours, even at night both girls and boys doing nothing,” he stressed.
Mokobe termed it a bad practice in society where majority those loitering at night are girls and boys who don’t follow instructions of their parents.
