Sudan People’s Liberation Movement (SPLM) Cadres in Yei River County are preparing for a unity among members.
The party cadres consider starting their togetherness by endorsing President Salva Kiir as flag bearer for 2024 December election.
During a reflection retreat last week, the SPLM members in Yei promised to strengthen efforts of the government in bringing peace and reconciling the people.
Addressing the party members, SPLM secretariat Chairperson in Yei River County, Aggrey Cyrus Kanyikwa noted that conflict has scattered the people, created divisions, hatred, hopelessness and mistrust.
He said that for unity to prevail, SPLM party, starting from Yei River County, will strive to work for peace.
Mr. Kanyikwa hopes that through the elections, the SPLM will lead a single government.
He praised that his club (the SPLM) liberated this country, granted hope, gave Southerners an opportunity to be called South Sudanese, granted South Sudanese the opportunity to lead themselves, built schools, and offered healthcare services.
“And therefore, we want to build that trust back. We want to build that confidence back. We want to ensure that there is peace as members of the league; we need to forgive each other. We need to reconcile,” he urged.
Meanwhile, Amb. Emmanuel Lowilia, MP Yei River County at the national legislative assembly (R-TNLA), said the retreat is a strong affirmation and support for SPLM as a political party.
He said that in his constituency, the natives are already asking him about how soon the primaries will start.
“So we told them that, yes, we know you’re excited. You want elections now. Primaries are going to go, but we cannot go ahead of us,” the MP revealed.
Preparations for primaries are done by the national secretariat, which again schedules congresses.
“The fact that they have called for elections and the primaries to happen now gives the indication that the people have built resilience and are willing to go ahead with the elections in support of SPLM and its agenda as a political party,” Lowillia boasted.
