About 30 varieties of sorghum seeds launched

By Ijoo Bosco

International Fertilizer Development Centre (IFDC) a non-governmental organization on Tuesday, November 14 launched sorghum seeds verities in Magwi Center.

The launch brought together farmers, cooperative societies, county agriculture department officials, and supporting partners from various parts of Magwi Payams.

IFDC Deputy Project Manager, Mr. Yoga Mario, stated that the same seed varieties were being planted in Wau, Bor, and Yei.

Yoga believes IFDC is responsible for improving the seeds sector through a seeds company that multiplies the process and provides technical guidance.

In this process, the seeds are produced through the growers to Agro dealers hence bringing them closer to the final consumer.

Mario revealed that several partners distributed seeds to the community, but they failed to plant them to taste the quality due to unclear reasons.

For his part, Mannix Augustine Oloyo Okalanga, Magwi County Agriculture Director emphasizes the need for his office to advise other partners in seed-related matters to continue supporting communities with diverse seed varieties.

Mannix stressed that seed production and multiplication should not only be for organizations like IFDC but should be extended to other partners.

He urged farmers to select suitable seeds for short-term production and optimal benefit for the entire Magwi center.
