INSECURITY CES reports surge in incidents

Central Equatoria State government has reported insecurity incidents in Yei, Juba, and Mangala.

During a council of ministers meeting on Thursday, the state minister of local government and law enforcement presented a memo on security concerns, highlighting crimes such as killings, abductions, injuries, and gang robberies in various parts of the state.

Andruga Mabe, the Minister of Information for Central Equatoria State, mentioned that despite overall calm in the state, these cases were reported sporadically.

“Some recorded cases of death, especially in Yei, Juba, and Mangala in particular. Abduction, injury, gang robbery, and theft were registered randomly everywhere across the state.”

“Some threats caused by the looming movement of the neighboring Murle ethnic groups, those who are predominantly known for their interest in child abductions were noticed in the eastern part of the state,” Mabe stated.

Early this month, authorities and residents of Yei River County have reported a concerning increase in abductions, raising security alerts in the area.

Mabe said, eradicating crimes requires time and adequate security mobilization from all levels of the government

“To eradicate crimes completely takes time. But the perpetrators we know will conclude. There will be a time the governments of all levels will prevail over these. In the counties, there will be stepped-up security surveillance around, and then the other one of the states will add on that, and then the national government will also,” he said.

The ordinary council of ministers’ sitting was presided by the governor of Central Equatoria State.
