By Kidega Livingstone

Central Equatoria State Ministry of General Education and Instruction has denied allegations that about 20 teachers were denied payment of their  October 2023 salary.

In a statement, the Press Secretary of the State Ministry of General Education and Instruction, Kwajok Laku Kwajok, acknowledged that the issue was not about teachers’ salaries, but rather the non-payment of unclassified staff (workers) in various schools.

“The committee sent by the National Ministry of General Education and Instruction to monitor the payment has denied that the unclassified staff should get the salary because it’s meant for the teachers only, but they resolved the issue and those workers received their salary today (yesterday),” Laku said.

Laku further revealed that the delay in salary payments was not limited to the unclassified staff, but also affected some counties due to ongoing security issues.

“The only counties that received the salary were Juba and Terekeka, but the rest of the counties will receive it through bank and mobile money, and that will go through the county directors of each of the countries, and the process has started,” he explained.

On Tuesday, Payment of teachers’ salaries for the month of October began in Central Equatoria State.

The National Ministry of General Education and Instruction has dispatched a salary oversight committee to screen the payroll and eliminate any ghost names or unclassified staff from the teachers’ salary payments.

According to the state education ministry, an amount of SSP 793,919,665 million has been deposited to cover salaries, operational costs, and logistics.
