Central Equatoria State Governor General Augustino Jadalla Kamilo Wani visited Wonduruba Administrative Payam on Friday to console families and residents affected by the recent attack that left over 10 young people dead.
The governor, accompanied by state advisors, lawmakers, and ministers, condemned the brutal killings and assured the public that the state government and security forces would conduct a thorough investigation to bring the perpetrators to justice.
During his counties’ tour, Governor Jadalla first visited Wonduruba Administrative Payam after Lainya County on the 8th of October, where he engaged with the local community and authorities, but sorrow struck behind his leaving.
“We came here (Wonduruba) seeking peace, to see your living conditions and hear from you. But to our dismay, when we left for Yei on the 10th of October, we heard of this tragedy.” Governor Jadalla recounted his journey stained with blood.
“We are deeply saddened by this tragic event. Our presence here today is to express our condolences and offer our support. We will not rest until those responsible for these heinous crimes are held accountable,” Governor Jadalla said.
Gen. Jadalla spoke during an address to the locals of Wonduruba while en route to Juba after wrapping up his tour to the counties of the greater Yei region.
The governor announced the formation of a fact-finding committee to gather information about the killings and identify those responsible.
He also urged residents to stay put and cooperate with the committee once it starts its work by providing any relevant details that could lead to arrests.
“We encourage you to remain in your homes,” Gen. Jadalla said. “The government will take all necessary measures to ensure your safety.”
Lieutenant General Wisely Welebe, the Assistant Chief of Defense Force for Logistics, also expressed his condolences and pledged the South Sudan People’s Defense Force (SSPDF) commitment to expediting the investigation and apprehending the culprits.
He further recommended the redeployment of SSPDF soldiers to the area to enhance security.
The gruesome and heinous attack has left the community of Wonduruba whirling from shock and grief.
As the investigation unfolds, residents hope for swift justice and increased security measures to prevent future tragedies.
