Security apparatus in Central Equatoria State have started a crackdown on alcoholic spirits that have been banned from consumption by governor Gen. Augustino Jadalla Wani.
Last week, Governor Jadalla conducted a field visit to inspect factories to acquaint himself with the production process and also to reinforce the implementation of the ban he had issued a week ago.
Earlier this week, security organs in the state swung into full action and confiscated crates and boxes of alcoholic spirits stored in various stalls within the City.
Some of these gins include London No.1 gin, Saba Saba commonly referred to as seven-seven gin, Kick, Star and disco gin among others.
According to a statement issued by Central Equatoria State acting, Minister of Information and Communication, Gerald Francis, the Crackdown will continue until when current stock is wiped out from circulation.
“Within one week, we didn’t want see any gin in the market,” said Francis.
He stated that any trader who is found to be in possession of the prohibited gin in his or her stall and resist the directives from security authorities conducting the operations will be dealt with according to the law.
“Our security agencies are doing great efforts and they should intensify efforts in this operations exercise on confiscating the illegal gin identified by the ban and any one resisting the orders should be dealt with by the law,” he added.
However, the Minister clarified that beverages and other alcoholic drinks such as beers and Wines are exempted from the order of the governor.
