By Bosco Bush

Lainya County Commissioner has endorsed 13 Resolutions for Intercommunal Reconciliation Forum aimed to restore peace and social cohesion among conflicting communities of Kupera and Wuji Payams.

According to Robert John Lasu, these communities have had a longstanding ancestral land dispute that led to disintegration, marginalization and violence.

On November 14, 2024, Commissioner Lasu endorsed and made it public 40 days later the resolutions of a 3-day consultative dialogue that brought over 60 participants including chiefs from Greater Kupera Payam, representing at least 7 Bomas.

The resolutions seen by this publication includes, consent of identity as one people of Pojulu tribe of Lainya County.

Accepting one another, cooperate and respect for the chiefs or traditional authorities in the area. Denouncing violence and observe historical ancestral peaceful coexistence.

Forgiving one another and letting go of the past. Promote peace and foster development. Urge leaders to distance themselves from peace spoilers. Urge individuals involved in logging to compensate the communities, and others.

Also, calls on the chiefs of Greater Kupera to facilitate the reconciliation process between the family and clan of former chief of Wuji/Kenyi and former chief of Kupera.

The Greater Kupera Payam Community Peace and Reconciliation Forum urges the Government of South Sudan at all levels to have a more coherent and balanced approach to the resolutions and recommendations reached.

Recognising the importance of the successful Peace Forum to cement a true, just and lasting peace and stability of the entire Greater Kupera community.

The dialogue was facilitated by Reconcile International in collaboration with the Inter-Church Committee [ICC] with support from PAX for peace under Action Plan for Peace [APP], from 12th-14th November 2024.
