Central Equatoria governor, H.E. Augustino Jadalla Kamilo Wani, has called for unity among the people across the State during celebration of Christmas festivity.
Jadalla also urged the public to maintain vigilance amidst Cholera situation in the state and across the country.
The governor was speaking to the media on Tuesday, while delivering his Christmas Message at the State Secretariat, Juba in presence of his deputy Hon. Paulino Lukudu Obede, and Hon. Angelo Daya, the State Advisor for Peace and Security.
Jadalla underscored that Christmas is a season of celebrating the birth of Jesus Christ which involves sharing, merry making and most importantly love for one another – a semblance that should characterize the celebration of the festivities.
“Although this year’s Christmas will be celebrated under relative peace as the country recovers from the effects of the conflict which raged for several years. Let’s be mindful of the fact that Central Equatoria State is still being faced with challenges including but not limited to insecurity caused by holdout groups, land grabbing, communal violence, economic hardships, displacement and cattle related challenges,” said Jadalla.
The governor emphasized that they are determined to solve these problems as a State, stating “It requires our unity, goodwill and practicality.”
Jadalla also urged the public to be vigilant during the Christmas celebrations especially amidst the worsening cholera outbreak that has claimed scores of lives across the country.
“In light of this, the following measures shall be observed by the public: wash your hand with safe water and soap, drink safe water, wash fruits and vegetables with safe water, cook food thoroughly, use latrines and encourage members of the public to take the cholera vaccine,” Jadalla advises the public.
In his Merry Christmas message, the governor also wishes the people a happy prosperous New Year, saying he hopes 2025 will be a better year of peace, development and improved stability.
“As Christians, we hope that, the resumption of the Tumaini Peace Initiative process in Kenya (…) will reach a consensus and we look forward to a new year filled with sustainable peace, healing, forgiveness, justice and reconciliation” Governor Jadalla concluded.
