Gov’t takes over Bentiu PoC

The United Nation Mission in South Sudan (UNMISS) has officially handed over the full responsibility of Bentiu Protection of Civilians’ (PoC) site to the state government.

The Bentiu PoC was hosting thousands of internally displaced people since the outbreak of the conflict in 2013. According the press secretary of Unity State Governor, Portsix Bakuony Patai the Governor of Unity State, Dr. Joseph Manytuil Wejang paid courtesy visit to the Protection of civilians Sites (POC) together with Deputy Governor Tor Tunguar Kuicguong, State’s Advisors, Ministers and Commissioners respectively to assess the situation.

“The visit comes after Unity State government last month signed memorandum of understanding with UNMISS to take over the protection of civilian residing in POC,” Portsix said. He added that Governor Manytuil reiterated the commitment of his government to protect and deliver necessary services to the IDPs adding that the Protection of civilian site is already over since the UNMISS left. It will be called Internally Displaced Person Camp (IDPs) and the state government will provide a piece of land to the IDPs.

Meanwhile the IDPs representative applauded the leadership for visit and reaffirm their commitment to stand with State government in order to deter insecurity that happened in the camp caused by gangs and other organized criminals group.
